Consultation FAQs

Consultation FAQs

I'm so glad you're here and I'd love to speak with you about your case! I offer phone, Zoom and in-person initial consultations for a discounted fee. I've included a list of Frequently Asked Questions about my initial consultations for potential clients:

  • Who would I meet with?

You would meet with attorney, Kristen Kaffer, for the consultation.

  • Do you offer free consultations?

I do not offer free consultations; however, initial consultations are discounted from my normal, hourly rate.  I offer a thirty (30) minute phone or Zoom consultation for $125 and a one (1) hour phone, Zoom or in-person consultation for $250.

  • Should I have a phone, Zoom or in-person consultation?

Most of my consultations are conducted via phone or Zoom.  I am happy to schedule an hour in-person consultation; however, you will generally be able to schedule an appointment more quickly via phone or Zoom.

  • Why should I schedule an initial consultation?

The initial consultation is helpful in many ways.  We get to know each other to see if I would be the best attorney for your case.  The consultation allows me to learn about your case and discuss possible strategies and outcomes.  I am also able to review and discuss documents you provide to me so long as they are provided at least forty-eight (48) hours before the consultation.

  • What information am I required to provide prior to the initial consultation?

Prior to the initial consultation, you are required to provide your first and last name, email address, phone number, name of the opposing party and a couple of sentences about your case.  This information is confidential and would never be provided to anyone outside the firm.  I need all of this information for several reasons including:

    • I need the name of the opposing party (e.g. your ex-wife or ex-husband) so that I am able to perform a required conflict of interest check.  I also need your last name to perform a required conflict of interest check.
    • The quickest way to communicate with me is always email: kkaffer@kristenkafferlaw.com. I need you to provide an email address that you check regularly (and that no one else can access) so that I may quickly and efficiently communicate with you about your matter.  If you do not have an email address, I'd recommend creating one through your computer's operating system or internet provider.
  • Sounds great! How do I request an initial consultation?

There are a few ways to request an initial consultation.

    1. Click the "Request a Consultation" button at the bottom of this page.  After you schedule your initial consultation, you will receive a separate email containing a consultation agreement and payment link.
    2. Call (602) 583-7310:  The receptionist will take some basic, required information from you, i.e. email, phone number, opposing party, etc. and schedule my next available phone and/or Zoom appointment.  After scheduling the appointment, you will receive an email with a consultation agreement and payment link.
    3. Email me at kkaffer@kristenkafferlaw.com and I will respond within twenty-four (24) business hours.
  • What happens to the consultation fee if I decide to retain Kristen Kaffer as my attorney?

If you retain me as your attorney of record, you will receive a credit towards your initial advanced fee for the cost of the initial consultation.
